Passing a Continuing Obstruction (Rule 18.5)
At a continuing obstruction, rule 18.2 is modified so that while boats are
passing the obstruction an outside boat's obligation ends if the overlap is
broken, and a boat clear astern may establish an inside overlap provided there
is room at that time to pass between the other boat and the oobstruction. If
she does so, her obligation under rule 18.2 (b) ends.
In other words, the is no overlap, and thus such rules do not apply, if the
boat that creates the overlap cannot pass between the overlapped boat and a
continuous obstacle.

Passaggio ad un ostacolo continuo (regola 18.5)
Rispetto ad un'ostacolo continuo (costa, spiaggia, etc. ) la regola 18.2 è
modificata nel senso che mentre le barche stanno passando l'ostacolo, l'obbligo
di una barca esterna finisce se l'ingaggiamento è interrotto, ed una
barca libera dalla poppa può stabilire un ingaggiamento all'interno purché
ci sia spazio in quel momento per passare tra la barca e l'ostacolo. Se agisce
in tal modo, non ha più valore la norma prevista dalla regola 18.2 (b).
In pratica un ingaggio non è stabilito e quindi non valgono le regole
che regolamentano la regata in questo caso, se la barca che lo stabilisce è
impossibilitata a passare fra la barca a cui risulta ingaggiata e l'ostacolo
continuo.

Doubler un obstacle continu (règle 18.5)
À un obstacle continu, la règle 18.2 est modifiée de telle
façon que pendant que les voiliers doublent l'obstacle, l'obligation
d'un voilier à l'extérieur se termine si l'engagement est rompu,
et un voilier en route libre derrière peut établir un engagement
à l'intérieur seulement si à ce moment-là il y a
de la place pour passer entre l'autre voilier et l'obstacle. S'il le fait, son
obligation prévue par la règle 18.2 (b) prend fin.
En d'autres mots, il n'y a pas d'engagement si le voilier qui l'établit
ne peut pas passer entre le bateau engagé et un obstacle continu: les
règles d'engagement dans ce cas ne s'appliquent pas.
