Initial Impressions Confirmed

Today's racing has dissipated most doubts. Luna Rossa is a faster boat windward.

Rod Davis's agressive start, nearly shoving Orm past the committee boat in the final minute of circling, gave Luna Rossa a speed edge at the start which translated into two boat lengths. They crossed and LR never trailed again.

More importantly, on every windward segment, Luna Rossa always covered their match racing opponent and continuously gained ground. What makes this speed difference all the more important is the fact that during the round robins, both Swedish boats showed superior speed windward and were leading the races before being overtaken leeward.

LR's inferiority complex can be nearly totally cancelled. Given that the other match was nearly a carbon copy, course-wise and tactically on the first four legs, there is even hope that its windward speed is greater even than oneWorld's. But that's assuming that S&S is equal, at best, to Orm.

All this data was collected with 7 to 11 knot winds. LR seems to be homing in on the right target. Similar wind conditions are expected tomorrow, there should be no change in performance.
