More Confusion
The final day of racing brought more confusion to the table. The best part of the day was the tight and agressive circling conducted by Oracle & OneWorld in their race. Those five minutes are vintage match racing footage. After that Oracle never really threatened, leaving oneWorld undefeated for Round Robin 1.
The sailing conditions were varied and involved the occasional squall. This may have led to Le Défi's forestay breaking - putting their mast under serious pressure; in any instance, shortly after the incident the race was abandoned because 23-knot+ winds were observed for more than 5 minutes.
That race was postponed until the afternoon, but saw S&S sail alone as the French team could not effect sufficient repairs.
Örn suffered a broken headsail halyard, thereby giving Oracle a 5th point.
Mascalzone Latino suffered damage in their match against Wight Lightning (a match punctuated by the Brits abandoning their spinnaker - a move that was not reprimanded) and had their race against LR postponed. Both will end up racing twice on October 22. At least that is the official version.
The differences in treatment are curious to say the least. They will feed the media for the coming week as teams now work on improving their boats.
